The Transmatter array is an experimental Terran teleportation device.
It is based off existing teleportation technology combined with similar devices reverse-engineered Protoss. In theory, the transmatter array is suppose to instantly teleport targets in its beam into a secure storage module (Stargate - Atlantis: Wraith beaming device). This would have made an incredibly efficient way to get personnel in and out of combat zones without needing to land transport crafts.
During preliminary trials, test subjects were successfully transported into the module. The only problem was getting them out without telefraging. After numerous failures and subjects calling in sick, the project was cancelled and all information filed away for later use as resources were allocated to construction of proven technology.
