Ethereal cloth is a type of material made from creatures of the void.
Difficult to make due to unstable reactions to normal space, only master artisans can refine the raw material into something useable. High ranking Dark Templar warriors substitute standard armor for this whenever possible for stealth and sabotage missions regular cloaking would fail at. Ethereal cloth's unique properties allow users to phase slightly out of time and space with a small amount of psionic energy. If user's wish, they can walk through solid objects as if they were spirits. Terran technology is not advanced enough to Detect the cloth, but it is very susceptible to being damaged if users pour a little too much psionic energy into it.
For these reasons, the secrets of Ethereal cloth are still a highly guarded even with the current treaty with other races.
